David Hedley

David grew up in Ashington, Northumberland and first began receiving oboe lessons at the age of 12. Four years later he was joined Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Band where he served for 6 years.

Upon leaving the Royal Marines David competed a Degree in Music at Durham University and shortly after moved to London to commence his master’s degree at the Royal College of Music where he studied with Juliana Koch, Olivier Stankiewicz, Christine Pendrill and Fabien Thouand.

Since graduating David has appeared as guest principal oboe with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Welsh National Opera and Birmingham Royal Ballet working with world renowned conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Antonio Pappano, Daniel Harding and Gianandrea Noseda. Alongside his performance work David has a great passion for teaching the oboe and has also enjoyed coaching LSO academy students numerous times. In his spare time he can normally be found making oboe reeds, cooking or running (away from the stress of making oboe reeds).
