Composers studio
Description
Work with the London Contemporary Soloists to bring a new composition to life. A maximum of eight composers will be selected and commissioned new pieces to be workshopped, rehearsed and performed in two concerts by the London Contemporary Soloists. All activities will take place in central London during 2-3-4 July and the specific sites will be announced to the participants once the selection has been made.
The London Contemporary Soloists will make both audio and video recordings of the performances.
Instrumentation of the London Contemporary Soloists:
The instrumentation of the Composers Studio will consist of Flute (db. Alto Flute in G), Clarinet in Bb (db. Bass Clarinet in Bb), Violin, Cello, Double Bass.
Every composer will be commissioned to write for the entirety or a subset of this ensemble.
The selected composers may request one additional instrument with their application, however there is no guarantee that this can be provided.
Who can apply?
Composers from any nationality born after 4 July 1994 are welcome to apply
Application process:
The application is free of charge
Latest date for applying is 18th of March 2024
To apply, please send a score and recording of one composition for ensemble, your CV or bio and 3 of your desired ensemble preferences (from most preferred to least) to londoncontemporarysoloists@gmail.com with “(your name) - 2024 Composers Studio application” as the title.
Ensemble preferences example:
1 - Violoncello, Double Bass
2 - Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Violoncello
3 - Clarinet, Violoncello, Double Bass
The selection will be made and notified to the selected composers latest by 22nd of March 2024. Six additional composers will also be selected as substitutes.
After the selection:
The selected composers will be invited to make a contribution of £85 by 1st of April to cover expenses.
The participating composers will need to submit their score and parts no later than 21 June 2024
The commissioned composition may last no longer than 7 minutes.
The participants will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation in London.
The two concerts will feature the works of the participating composers alongside known works from the 20th and 21st centuries.
The activities of the Composers studio will include:
Day 1:
Meeting of composers and presentation of previous and commissioned works.
Rehearsals of all the pieces
Day 2:
Rehearsals for the first 4 pieces
Dress Rehearsal
First Concert
Day 3:
Rehearsals for the second 4 pieces
Dress Rehearsal
